- Pull out the dryer.
- Unplug the dryer from the wall receptacle. Disconnect the flex vent from the exhaust duct.
- Vacuum the back side of the dryer and underneath it to clean up the area. Return any items that are found in the process to the tenant.
- With the vacuum nozzle in position at the bottom of the exhaust vent, use the flexible brush, and clean out the exhaust vent of the dryer.
- Take off the back of the dryer and wipe down interior surfaces, making sure that the heating elements are clean.
- Brush and vacuum out the dryer lint trap.
- Stretch nylon hose over dryer vent exhaust and run dryer to make sure that it is operating.
- Remove the exterior vent louver cover.
- Stretch elastic nylon hose over exterior j channel of dryer vent opening.
- Wrap a leaf blower nozzle in a towel and blow the exhaust duct out. The hose should catch all of the debris.
- Position the vacuum at the bottom of the exhaust duct to catch the debris.
- Brush out the exhaust duct using a cordless drill and 2 sections of flexible rod.
- Turn it in a clockwise direction only, so that the rods do not become unthreaded.
- If the brush becomes lodged, push it in and pull it out until it turns freely again.
- Once the exhaust duct is cleaned, reinstall the exterior vent cover.
- Check to make sure that the louvers are operating freely.
- Reconnect the flex vent, making sure it is fastened securely, plug the dryer into the receptacle, and push it back into place.
- Wash the lint trap if necessary.
- Sweep and wipe up the floor.
