How To: Pour A Concrete Porch Step

Time:

2 man/days, (2 consecutive days)

Materials:

Lumber- (2) 2×8-8′ SPF (for forms)

(2) 2×4-8′ SPF (for bracing)

Screws- (1) small pack of 3″ deck screws (for constructing forms)

(1) small pack of 2.5″ deck screws (for attaching stakes to forms)

(1) small pack of 3″ Tapcons (with included drill bit)

Sill seal (1) roll for wrapping plumbing protrusions or sealing gaps

Painters tape (1) to fasten sill seal around plumbing

Silicone (1) 10oz tube (for sealing forms and gaps)

ReBar- (1) #3(3/8″)x10′ fiberglass rebar

Anchoring Epoxy- (1)10oz. Sika 2 part 15 minute epoxy(with included mixing nozzles)

Form Release- (1) pint vegetable oil (some people have used diesel), used fryer oil works great!

Quickrete- (8) 80lb bags (for a 14″ x 5′ step)

Tools:

Saw horses (2) hopefully wooden ones

Circular Saw- (1) corded or cordless, with sharp framing blade

Drill (1) preferably cordless, with hammerdrill feature

SDS Hammer Drill (1) corded or cordless (could probably be omitted, and just use a large bit with the cordless drill with hammer feature, but much speedier and more powerful)

SDS Drill Bit (1)1/2×6″ to fit your type of SDS drill

Caulk Gun (1) 10oz size

Hand Sprayer (1) heavy duty, for spraying oil (or use any cheap paint brush)

Stakes- (6) 18″ steel -or- 1×3″ wood lath (cut to 24″ length and a point)

Water Hose (1) sufficient length to reach from the water supply to the grass where you plan to mix concrete, and also the installation location

Water Nozzle (1) hand nozzle

Water Source (1) confirmed water source

Concrete mixer (1) electric is quiet(but confirm power source), speeds up placement for better quality project

Wheelbarrow (1) 7 yard, (preferably poly with wooden handles)

Spade (1) spade, (short D handle is nice)

Trowels (8) a large morter trowel, a flat rectangle steel trowel, a mag trowel, a small pointing trowel, a small margin trowel, a round edger trowel, (a spare edger trowel to cut for custom situations), and a flat striker tool

ChiselEdge Sponge (1) for cleaning hard to reach areas

Concrete Broom (1) concrete finishing broom (or large masonry paintbrush)

Scrub brush (1) poly scrub brush
