How To: Remove a Faucet and Drain

Time: 1 hour

Tools: Bucket, Towel, Adjustable wrench, Basin wrench, Replacement wall valves, Teflon tape, Blue Monster sealent, Shopping bag, Paper towel

Process: First, locate the zone valves or main water shutoff for the residence in which you will be working.

Next, lay a towel underneath the valves, and set a bucket on the towel.

Then shut off the valves.

Using your adjustable wrench, disconnect the lower end of the supply hoses and drain them into the bucket.

If your wall valves are not functioning properly, shut off zone valves or main water valve, and replace them.

Using the basin wrench, disconnect the upper end of the supply hoses from the threaded end of the faucet.

To remove the faucet from the countertop, unthread the nuts from the threaded end of the faucet.

Now, remove the drain. Loosen the nuts holding the P-Trap in place and direct the water into your bucket.

Remove the nut connecting the tailpiece to your drain and remove the tailpiece.

Loosen the nut on the wall plumbing trap adapter, and remove the drain arm from the wall.

Insert a piece of paper towel into a shopping bag and use it to plug the wall drain opening to prevent unwanted odors.

Congratulations! You have successfully removed your faucet and drain.
